How to cancel the TV license fee in Italy?

If you care about unnecessary charges, it is possible and advisable to cancel the TV license fee of the Italian public broadcasting agency, Canone RAI, which is automatically charged to the electricity bill – €90 per year.

You can request to cancel this charge from the electricity bill of an apartment, only if the electricity bill for that address is registered in your name, and only if you do not possess any television receiver device in that apartment. A regular computer or laptop is not considered a television receiver according to the law, only an actual TV is subject to the fee.

To do this, the legal requirement is only to complete Part A of the personal declaration form, and submit it via email along with front and back photos of your identification document (e.g. an Italian ID card) every six months, by the end of June and by the end of December, to cancel the charges for the following six months.

It worked for us. Even years after we stopped emailing this declaration, the Canone RAI charge has never resorected. It is recommended to keep a copy of the completed form so that next time, every six months, you would only need to update the date and easily resubmit it.
