Chada Thai Nudelsuppe
Rempartstraße 5 (city center)

This family owned restaurant in the heart of the old town offers a small menu and about half of it is completely vegan. Though the choice is narrow, the flavors and freshness of the ingredients is mind-blowing and mouth watering. You can choose between noodles with vegetables in broth, a Thai noodle curry or a cold served noodle salad. The dishes are super tasty and one dish would keep you full for the rest of the day. The prices are moderate and the staff is kind and attentive.

Tofu Taifun
Market stand at the Münstermarkt (city center)

Tofu Taifun, one of the leading tofu producers in Europe, was founded in Freiburg. The Factory still resides in the outskirts of Freiburg and offers group tours to learn about the process of tofu making. For those of you who would just like to taste their awesome products, there ix a vegan sausage stand offering some of the company’s products. The Tofu sausage truck blends well within the busy central farmers market of Freiburg, and they offers a vegan alternative to the traditional Wurst. This is a great place to grab a quick, tasty and affordable lunch.

Euphrat
Niemensstraße 13 (city center)

Next to the university there are many options for a student’s budget lunch. Nevertheless, this Kurdish women-owned diner stands out in terms of taste, quality and budget. If you approach this place during lunch time, the first thing that you’ll notice would be the long queue of hungry students and uni-staff. However the waiting time is short as they run a very efficient and quick service. When your turn comes, you can choose between different types of freshly made breads and out of the fillings from the salads and stews bar. Out of their sandwiches our favorite one is the Yufka with Falafel, made in front of you on the spot in a couple of minutes just as you order it.

Coffee and cake

Pausenraum
Burgdorfer Weg 19 (Zähringen)

A cozy neighborhood vegan café (apart from the optional cow milk for drinks), that serves many vegan cakes and a changing daily lunch menu. All the dishes are home made and 100% organic. Many of the cakes and dishes are also gluten free. This place is very kids-friendly, and we passed here many hours of coffee breaks while learning the German language in their cute reading corner equipped with donated books. This is one of those rare businesses that are really involved in the community, and they support and organize many special public and private events.
